📚 Turning the Page Campaign
A Campaign for Literacy, Liberation, and Learning Behind Bars
Presented by Comic Books for Justice (CB4J)
In collaboration with the SUNY Office of Higher Education in Prison and Hudson Link for Higher Education in Prison
What if a comic book could change a life?
Turning the Page is a bold initiative harnessing the power of comic books to advance literacy, foster liberation, and inspire learning among the incarcerated population. Together with our incredible partners—SUNY's Office of Higher Education in Prison and Hudson Link for Higher Education in Prison—we’re distributing 10,000 comic books to correctional facilities across New York State.
This is more than just a book drop.
It is a movement for justice.
📖 Why Comic Books?
Nearly 70% of incarcerated individuals in the U.S. read at or below a 4th-grade level. This harrowing statistic reflects an ongoingr crisis in educational access, caused by systemic neglect, structural barriers, and widening social inequality
Comic books visual, accessible, and engaging are a powerful instrument for bridging literacy gaps, building critical thinking skills, and stimulating the imagination. They are a gateway to deeper learning, storytelling, and self-expression, capacities whose development and exercise are crucial for re-entry into civilian society
🌟 Become a Superhero for Literacy and Liberation
We’ve launched a GoFundMe campaign to help us get 10,000 comic books into the hands of incarcerated individuals and at risk youth across New York State and we need your help to turn the page on illiteracy and inequality.
Your donation fuels our mission to make literacy accessible to people while incarcerated and in underserved communities. Every dollar helps us print, package, and deliver these powerful, engaging comic books to places where hope and imagination are often in short supply.
This isn’t just a campaign it’s a movement for justice, education, and healing.
